Card offload for macOS

Insert the card.
Get two verified copies. Green.

tuu recognizes the camera and the operator behind it, copies the card to your main drive and your backup drive at the same time, and checks every file on both. The tile turns green only when both copies are confirmed.

Built for DITs, video producers and event crews. Windows version in development.

How it works

Four steps, and you only do the first one.

1 · You

Insert the card

tuu watches for new volumes. Camera cards are picked up on their own; your main and backup drives are never mistaken for one.

2 · tuu

Knows the camera

It reads the camera's serial number from the clips and looks up who shoots with it. A new camera is asked about once, then remembered.

3 · tuu

Copies twice at once

The card is read once and written to both drives in parallel, into the right folder for production, operator and card number.

4 · tuu

Verifies, then turns green

Both copies are read back from disk and compared by checksum. Green means both are confirmed. Now the card can go.

Features

Everything a card offload needs, and nothing you have to babysit.

DETECT

Automatic card detection

Plug in a card reader and tuu starts. Camera folder structures (DCIM, PRIVATE, CONTENTS, XDROOT, M4ROOT) and clips in the card root are recognized.

IDENTIFY

Operator by serial number

Serial numbers come from clip metadata via exiftool or from Sony and Canon XML sidecars. Each camera is linked to its operator once.

FALLBACK

Works without a serial, too

Recorders and drones that write no serial number are recognized by their folder and file pattern, such as a HyperDeck's device name.

COPY

Dual copy in one pass

One read of the card, two writes. Free space on both drives is checked before the first byte moves.

VERIFY

Checksums from disk

Every file is hashed with XXH3 while copying, then both copies are read back from the drives and compared. Not from cache, from disk.

ORGANIZE

Folders that sort themselves

Production, operator, card number. Numbering runs per operator and per production and continues where it left off.

DUPLICATES

Knows a card it has seen

Each card gets a fingerprint. Insert the same card again in the same production and tuu tells you it is already backed up instead of copying it twice.

REPORT

Client report in three formats

A designed PDF report, an Excel sheet and a CSV with every card, operator, device, file count, size, paths and timestamps.

CLEAN

No macOS clutter

Hidden system files like .Spotlight-V100, .fseventsd and ._ files are left out of the copy and the fingerprint.

Add-on · Final Cut Pro

From green tile to Final Cut, already sorted.

Turn on the Final Cut Pro handoff and tuu passes every verified card straight to Final Cut. The production becomes an event, and each operator and each card gets its own keyword collection.

Clips stay on your main drive, where tuu just verified them. Final Cut links to them instead of copying them a third time. You confirm the library once per import.

Event per productionKeywords per operatorKeywords per card
Folder structure

The same tree on both drives. Every time.

tuu builds Production / Operator / Operator_Card 01 on the main drive and mirrors it exactly on the backup. Every card folder carries the operator's name, so it stays clear even when it is moved or sent on its own.

An existing card folder is never overwritten. If a folder is already there, tuu stops and tells you.

Client report

Hand over proof, not promises.

At the end of the shoot, export the log for your client. Every card, who shot it, on which camera, how much data, where both copies live and when they were verified.

Safety rules

Rules tuu never breaks.

  • Green means both copies are verifiedNot copied, not mostly done. Both copies read back and matched.
  • Main and backup on different diskstuu refuses a setup where both targets sit on the same physical drive.
  • Existing card folders are never overwrittenIf the target folder exists, the offload stops with a clear message.
  • Your drives are never treated as cardsMain and backup volumes are excluded from detection.
  • Space is checked firstA card that will not fit on both drives does not start copying.
  • Same card, same production: no second copyDuplicates are flagged by fingerprint instead of copied again.
Cameras and recorders

Made for the cards you actually shoot on.

tuu reads standard camera card layouts and clip metadata. Serial number support depends on what each model writes into its files.

FAQ

Questions crews ask.

What does "verified" mean exactly?

While copying, tuu computes an XXH3 checksum of every file on the card. After copying, it reads each file back from the main drive and from the backup drive and computes the checksum again. Only when all three match for every file does the card turn green.

How does tuu know who shot a card?

Most cameras write their serial number into the clips or into sidecar files. tuu reads it, and the first time it sees a camera it asks you which operator it belongs to. From then on every card from that camera goes to that person's folder automatically.

What about devices without a serial number?

Some recorders and drones write none. tuu then recognizes the device by its folder layout and file naming. Two identical units of the same model without serial numbers cannot be told apart; assign those cards manually.

Does tuu work with Final Cut Pro?

Yes, with the Final Cut Pro add-on. After each verified card, tuu creates the event and keyword collections in Final Cut and links the clips on your main drive. Final Cut asks once which library to use. BRAW and R3D footage needs the Blackmagic or RED plugin in Final Cut, as with any manual import.

Can my main and backup drive be the same disk?

No. Two folders on one disk are not a backup. tuu checks that both targets sit on different physical drives and will not start otherwise.

What do I need to run it?

A Mac with macOS and a card reader. tuu uses exiftool to read camera metadata. Windows support is in development.

Does tuu format or erase my cards?

No. tuu only reads from the card. Formatting stays your decision, in the camera, after the tile is green.

How do I get support?

Email support@tuuapp.de. Tell us your Mac model, the camera and what you see in tuu. The card log from tuu (CSV or Excel) helps us find the cause faster.
